The Oov was invented in Australia by Polestar Pilates instructor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, and Neuroscientist Daniel Vledeta as an innovative way to enhance rehabilitation and fitness. While originally developed as a better alternative to using a rolled towel to length the spine, the Oov is now used for far more than back rehabilitation.

What can Oov do for me?

Are you recovering from an injury?

Consider this…

When you pick up a washing basket or a pile of heavy equipment, do you think about engaging your core muscles to support your back? No. Your body automatically engages those muscles. Oov strengthens your core without the conscious thought required during other core training techniques.

It’s like subliminally training your core to activate when your body needs it during exercise and activity. But, more than that, the Oov improves movement in your joints which allow each part of your body to perform as they are meant to.

Oov training enables elite athletes to perform at their peak yet it is gentle enough for rehabilitation of a recent injury or operation. Hamilton-based Ironman triathlete, Bevan Littler, said that he has been able to complete his 180km cycle without back pain since coming along to Oov classes. This is because the Oov strengthens the core and teaches it to engage whenever needed.

Oov training is helpful for almost everybody. The first step in using an Oov is to develop the ability to balance on it. From there, you can introduce a wide range of movements to challenge your core muscles to strengthen to a greater measure.

Using Oov in a fitness class

I was introduced to Oov as part of my rehabilitation process having had a discectomy on a ruptured disc in my lower back. Having been very active over past years in multisport etc I found that having had the damage to my back including my sciatic nerve “cooking” my right quad meant that I was almost back to square one. Starting with individual Oov sessions with my Physio and then moving onto Oov classes I am now back motor-crossing, running, kayaking etc…. all this from when I struggled to even bend down and tie my shoelaces.

I am more than happy to endorse Oov as a low pressure but effective way to rebuild a damaged body to the extent that I have brought an Oov for use at home as part of my ongoing maintenance programme. I encourage you to try it for yourself.
